Adobe Illustrator shipped on March 19, 1987. It was Adobe’s first software application based on Adobe PostScript, the technology that changed the entire publishing industry. Illustrator not only altered Adobe’s course dramatically, it changed drawing and line art forever.

For a lot of the current users of Illustrator it’s hard to imagine the impact that Illustrator made in a world where designs and illustrations were done manually.

With the app ‘Adobe Illustrator, the early years’ we want to give some insight into the early years of Illustrator and celebrate the creative freedom that Illustrator brought to designers and illustrators.

Vector Art in Photoshop with Dynamic Zoom & Rotate View – YouTube.

In this video, I show you a recent technique I’ve been experimenting with where I’ve been creating my basic vector art using Photoshop CS6. I’ve done this to take advantage of some features I wish were included in Adobe Illustrator, the Rotate View tool, the Dynamic Zoom tool and the Spring-Loaded Keys feature.

It works pretty great for basic initial vectors, which are easily exported to Illustrator for finishing.

Adobe Illustrator CS5/CS6: Fix for Place Image & Blank Swatch Panel Error

If you are encountering errors when attempting to use the Place command, or seeing a blank swatches panel, most likely you are using font manager FontExplorer X and updated the plug-ins to the recent updated versions.

Seems there’s a bug, discovered on the Adobe Forums thread where I learned about the cause of the issue. A Twitter user posted the above screenshot from the built-in updater in Font Explorer X 3, although the plugins can’t actually be downloaded it seems.

I am running version 2 of FEX still, and never even saw the plugin updates in the manager, I had to download directly from the Font Explorer X website.

Hopefully Linotype will fix this soon. In the meantime, delete or disable the plugin until the fix is released to get your Place command and Swatch panel back to normal.

I downloaded it and it’s pretty great. I backed the original Kickstarter campaign to get this made. Will report back on the full version once released. But even the light version will be a handy tool for most.
